Was in Reno a few weeks ago for a speaking/golf/hang event with Pace Supply… The last night, I was hanging in the sports book and was about to hop onto a craps table, when all of a sudden a DJ hopped onto a stage area in the sports book and instantly turned it into a country line dancing bar…
Within minutes, the book was inundated with shit kicking boots, American flags & daisy dukes.
The scene was entertaining enough to stick around for another drink and watch the scene unfold…
Out on the dance floor, there was a slew of country bumpkins that began dancing in unison that got me itching to get into the game… Of course, this wasn’t the first time I’d seen line dancing. In my younger tail chasing years, I wasn’t afraid to get out there and make an ass out of myself in an attempt to keep up with a dance I had absolutely no clue how to do. I even managed to score some chick’s number after dancing my ass off like a wild baboon one night at “In Cahoots” in San Diego…
Oh yea… That same chick happened to become my wife and mother to my 3 children. 😅
So now, after years of winging it, I finally decided that it was time to properly learn how to do the Cowboy Shuffle. Maybe it was my constant preaching to try new shit, or the fact that I finally saw the light and realized a little line dancing could be an incredible way to maximize my daily step count. 🤷♂️
Regardless, when I got home from Reno, I fired on a YouTube Cowboy Shuffle Tutorial vid and I was ALL IN… The next hour turned into a family line dancing affair as the CB Shuffle infiltrated our entire household.
After a few cocktails and probably bout a hundred attempts…
I f*cking NAILED IT.
A few immediate lessons learned…
- Don’t wait 43 years to learn the boot’n scoot boogie.🕺
- All natural rhythmic inefficiencies have the ability to be overcome with hard work and a few tequilas.
- As our dude John Michael Montgomery once said:
“The longer I live the more I believe,
You do have to give if you want to receive,
There’s a time to listen, a time to talk,
And you might have to crawl even after you walk,
Had sure things blow up in my face,
Seen the longshot win the race,
Been knocked down by the slamming door,
Picked myself up and came back for more,
Life’s a dance you learn as you go,
Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow,
Don’t worry about what you don’t know ,
Life’s a dance you learn as you GO.”
