A few weeks ago I walked into my garage and there just so happened to be shit EVERYWHERE…
Bikes, skateboards, skis, snowboards, snow shoes, F*IT List & LTP books & gear, baseball equipment, water toys, a Jeep and a couple brand new mini bikes…
Obviously I feel very fortunate to have accumulated so much stuff that has played a part in many fun and awesome experiences, yet the compilation and disorganization of things gave me an incredibly uneasy feeling.
Basically, our garage resembled a sporting good store that just had a freaking bomb go off and something needed to be done about it immediately…
The Kowalski’s were in town at the time and Kowalski and I immediately just started taking shit out of the garage… Within about an hour, the garage was completely empty and outside in the driveway we were able to organize what we did and did not still use.
Eventually we left for baseball practice and let Tarah, Alyssa and the girls take over… 3 hours later when we returned, the bikes, skis and skateboards had been put up in racks, all the helmets hung on nails, the F*IT List & LTP gear beautifully organized and a gigantic pile of skis, boots and toys were placed in a pile outside the garage to give away…
Not shocking, when I saw what had taken place I had this next level sense of peace and calm come over me…
Look, I get it… Cleaning out a garage or closet can be a pain in the ass and incredibly time consuming, but the residual benefits are enormous and have the potential to be both liberating and life changing.
My Mom used to always say many hands make light work and although the girls carried the biggest load, this was a team effort and turned out being a great opportunity for the kids to learn the value of organization as well as make tough decisions as far as what toys to keep and what to give away.
Selfishly speaking, the organization sensation I experienced was a beautiful reminder that whenever a garage, room, closet or arena of life becomes disheveled, let’s make sure to CLEAN THAT SHIT UP!
