There are a lot of times in our lives when we have a thought or idea about doing something BIG…
This may be starting a business, chasing that dream job, doing a marathon or writing a book…
All too often our vision fades into oblivion and it’s incredible how easily we sweep it under the rug and make excuses for our failure to act.
We move on but we know in our hearts that we left something on the table. We pretend that everything is ok and to just about all in our world, it probably seems that way… Yet, by nature, humans are inherently judgmental and just because others may not judge us for failing to act on a dream they never knew existed, we ourselves will always be our biggest critics…
That said, we will and we must hold ourselves accountable for both the actions we take and the many things we fail to act upon…
Arguably, Teddy Roosevelt’s most famous speech was “The Man In The Arena” which begins with one of the most powerful lines I’ve ever read…
“It’s not the critic that counts.”
Teddy was obviously right but just for this Daily Hustle’s sake, let’s pretend our dude Theodore specified his critic by pronouncing “it’s not the OUTSIDE critic that counts…”
Let us take a second now to introduce the “Internal Critic.”
The internal critic is the one we live with every single day and as much as he can be a pain in the ass, he is actually here for our benefit… The internal critic demands accountability for every hope and dream we have ever held but most importantly, the internal critic demands ACTION. He is our influencer and our inspiration because the internal critic ultimately demands that we maximize our talents & positive impact on this world… Anything less simply just isn’t good enough.
Yea I get it, the internal critic can be a ball busting whip cracking mother fucker but when we stare at that bitch in the mirror at night, he is the only critic that counts!!!!
