Do The Work

Malcolm Gladwell likes to champion something he calls the 10,000 hour rule…

He believes that if we want to be truly great at something, we need to put in roughly 10,000 hours of work.

I agree with him in a lot of ways…

That means if we want to reach 10,000 hours in a realistic time period of 10 years, that breaks down to 1,000 hours of training per year. Divide 1,000 hours by the allotted 365 days in a year and we are left with having to average 2.7 hours of training for 3,650 straight days. That works out to be 2 hours and 42 minutes a day for the duration of the 10 years…

Sound daunting?

Not really…

That means we can become a complete and total badass at our craft and potentially make a great living by doing it and all we have to do is work for 2 hours and 42 minutes a day???

That means we have 21.3 hours or 21 hours and 18 minutes to do whatever the F*CK we want…

Where can we sign up for this deal???

The Problem:

Nobody wants to do the actual work. We talk a big game, but when it comes down to making that 2 hour and 42 minute commitment a day, we find every excuse in the book NOT to get it done. Work is not always pleasurable, and oftentimes through the course of constant improvement, it will be uncomfortable…

Human Crash Test Dummy Solution:

Don’t give ourselves a choice. We must make our work part of our lifestyle. Our commitment to our craft isn’t something that comes and goes, it is a constant stabilizing force that will keep all other aspects of our life on track…

It’s very simple actually, DO THE WORK.

Team Go Hard Task:

Very few of us stay on point everyday, but to prove it is possible, let’s go everyday for the next month…

Even if u don’t give me 2:42, give me at least an hour of honing your craft EVERY F*ING DAY.
