Educating Experience

My Dad used to tell me that there are two things in life he and my mother could give me that nobody will ever be able to take away:

  1. Education
  2. Experience

He claimed they could give me money and I could go blow it gambling…

They could give me a house and I could find a way to burn it down…

They could give me a car that I decide to joy ride off a cliff…

Yet nobody will ever be able to take the knowledge from my mind or the experiences from my life that subsequently constitute who I become as a man.

The Problem:

We are generally too young, naive and hungover to absorb much of the educational content in college. Many of us walk away trying to figure out what (if anything) we just learned.

We then get stuck in the rat race of life and spend all of our time trying to acclimate to the realities of the real world… Meanwhile, we miss out on one experience after another because we have become fixated on trying to accumulate enough wealth to marry our high school sweethearts, build a house with a white picket fence, and fire out 2.5 kids.

Human Crash Test Dummy Solution:

No need to worry about specific educational things learned in college… The relationships built, experiences obtained, and work ethos developed has set us up for a lifetime.

The challenge now is to continue to educate ourselves on a daily basis through reading, writing, observing and experiencing life.

Wisdom is not something that is taught in a text book or obtained through a lecture…

Wisdom is EARNED through real life experiences. There is NO substitute.

Go Hard Task:

Educate yourself by reading or listening to a new book this week, then pick out a new experience and charge at it…

New run, new ride, new game, new concert, new restaurant, etc…

They all equal the same thing…

New EDUCATION & New EXPERIENCE.
