December 7, 1942 is a day that will “forever live in infamy.”
At least that’s what President Franklin D. Roosevelt said not long after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor…
The events that followed included the United States entering WWII and the eventual nuclear bombing of two different cities in Japan.
Much like December 7, 1942, September 11, 2001 is a day that will forever haunt the American people… The needless loss of life and overall devastation that took place will be etched in our memories for a lifetime, whether we happened to live through the fateful experience or not.
As much as we can lament what is considered by most to be the two most tragic events since the Civil War, the underlying good that emerged from the absolute depths of these despairs is real, very real.
WWII revitalized the American economy with 17 million new jobs created and it finally allowed women and African Americans to prove their invaluable worth in the workforce…
Overall, the industrial productivity in the US doubled and we established ourselves as a global superpower with both our supplying and military capabilities.
After 9-11, never in my life had I seen our nation unite like it did… Regardless of background, ethnicity or socioeconomic levels, our nation rallied together to do everything in our power to help those specifically affected by the senseless terrorist attacks that brought our entire country to our knees…
Actual studies have been conducted to see if there were real benefits to experiencing such a traumatic event and the results showed that there was a massive increase of pro social behavior, nationalism, spirituality and political engagement.
The underlying benefits of one of the worst days this world has ever seen will never bring back those who were senselessly murdered 19 years ago today… Yet, so long as we are living we must continue to find silver linings that help us continue to put one foot in front of the other and charge forward…
America has been knocked down several times and one might argue that given our current environment, we happen to be face down on the canvas right now… The good thing is that since the inception of this great nation we have figured out a way to get the fuck back up every single time and that starts with FINDING LIGHT in our darkest days…
