Get your ass up

Woke up a couple of weeks ago and had an incredibly quiet & productive morning…

As part of the Daily Stoic 30-day challenge, I fired out of the rack at 4am, an hour earlier than usual… Per usual Daily Hustle routine, I made a powerful batch of Bulletproof Coffee then knocked out a 12-degree snow grounding session followed by building a fire and hitting the foot reflexology board… That was followed with a Calm app meditation session, a Daily Devotional, Daily Dad & Daily Hustle before pounding out an hour on the bike, immediately followed up with 5 Daily Hustle Podcast recordings… I sat down to eat some breakfast with the fam then helped get the kids to get off to ski team.

This is when I looked at my watch for the first time…

7:30am.

Holy shit balls, I was 3.5 hours into the day and I literally felt as if I had just slaughtered a week… Well, I actually did crush an entire week of podcasts so that probably had something to do with it.

Look, just like everyone else, I often struggle to be efficient and effective with my time… When I feel rushed in the morning, it seems as if my life is in fast forward and my productivity is absolute shit. I spend the day trying to get caught up, and when it’s over, I may have completed the tasks but the entire day was a f*cking blur…

What I learned from the “Get Up 1 Hour Earlier” Daily Stoic challenge is that it allows us to slow life down to the point where we become a thousand times more PRESENT throughout the day.

When we aren’t rushing to get somewhere or we aren’t rushing to do something, we are able to completely immerse ourselves at the moment and smell the roses, or in my case, the Bulletproof Coffee.

I am a firm believer that we need to slow down in order to speed up, and the only way we can afford to slow down is by allotting that extra time which allows us to truly understand what being in the NOW means.

It is no secret and has long been proven that the most successful people in the world are “early risers.”  Probably a pretty good time for all of us to start thinking about joining the party…
