In today’s society, we are constantly looking for the award…
We judge ourselves and others by the feathers in our cap and notches in our belt. This is America, a country of hard charging go getters and we rightfully celebrate the accomplishments of ourselves and others…
There’s only one problem with this… When recognizing the end result, we often lose sight of the process that actually allowed us to get there.
Looking back on the Let Them Play Triathlon Across America, the swim finish in Oakland, the bike finish in Chicago and run finish in NYC were all major milestones well documented in the LTP documentary…
Yet, if you watch the entire movie, producer Eric Cochran does an amazing job of capturing the PROCESS of what it took to swim 7 miles across the SF Bay flanked by 2 kayaks fighting currents and the presence of Jaws the entire time.
EC also beautifully displayed what it took to ride a bike through the Nevada desert, Utah salt fields, Wyoming wild terrain, Nebraska corn fields and Iowa prairie farms under extremely stressful environmental conditions including terrestrial thunderstorms and 120 degree heat.
Cochran then captured the 905 mile trek on foot that included some of the darkest periods where we all questioned whether or not we would ever get to NYC…
If you take the time to watch the movie, which I humbly suggest, each leg of the triathlon is emotionally celebrated at the conclusion of the journey, but as we all know, that was simply the harvest we reaped.
The truth is that the real celebration took place every single day when the real work was done beneath the surface when we planted the seeds…
What am I trying to say?
Nothing actually, I prefer Robert Louis Stevenson say it for me:
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but rather by the seeds that you plant.”
Thanks Bob. 👊
Let’s make sure to JUST KEEP PLANTING…
