Sissy Small Fry, my middle child, came up to me the other day and said, “Daddy, here is a good quote for you!”
She then proceeded to hand me a rock and on the rock it read:
“Faith does not make things easy… It makes them possible.”
With great faith comes great expectations and oftentimes even great results… Yet, nowhere along the way did anybody say it was going to be easy…
Having faith and an underlying belief in ourselves and our mission is necessary in order to get to where we want to go, but faith alone will NOT carry us to the promised land. In order to get there, we are going to have to work and will our way through the daily grind of life and continue to accumulate experiences that will build both our strength and endurance…
Ever since I was 9 years old, I had faith that I would one day become a Major League Baseball player. The next 25 years of my life were dedicated to doing everything in my power to make that faith based possibility a reality… A tireless work ethic allowed me to not only get to the big leagues but it also helped keep me there for 11 seasons…
The journey to MLB and my time spent in professional baseball was a lot of things but “easy” was definitely not one of them.
Minor League stops included Medford, Visalia, Modesto, Midland, Sacramento and parts of 5 winters in the Dominican Republic… Once I got to the big leagues, I got sent down & called up a total of 9 times, traded twice and released on 3 separate occasions…
Bottom line: Through faith, all things are possible… Through work and a mother fucking relentless attitude and effort, all things are doable…
Regardless of how we want to phrase it, it’s never easy!
