Following up on my Jerry Seinfeld experience from yesterday, another rant that he went on was after he declared: “I am 65 years old.”
He then proclaimed that now that he is well into his 60’s, he has realized it has been his favorite decade so far…
Huh… Why?
Basically because we spend the first 60 years of our life saying yes to a lot of shit we don’t want to do…
“Now in my 60’s, I just say NO.” Jerry exclaimed…
Wow… He’s got a great point. How often do we say yes to things we don’t want to do? How often do we find ourselves spending time doing shit because somebody else put us up to it? Ultimately, we often end up resenting whatever it is that we are doing, and of course, the person who facilitated us partaking in that activity.
More often than not, we put ourselves in situations where we spend time with people we don’t necessarily enjoy being around. Then, we find ourselves in a negatively vicious f*ck the world mindset that tends to bleed into other arenas of our life.
Time has been and always will be the most valuable resource we possess…
When we WASTE time doing things that we don’t want to do, we are throwing away time and in essence, throwing away life.
All the events in our life that we have the opportunity to experience will fall into 2 categories: obligation or recreation, that’s it.
And yes, of course there are certain things that we don’t necessarily love doing that we do anyway, but generally, these things will fall into the obligation category… For these, all I can say is suck it up buttercup…
Yet, for the events that fall into the recreation category, these often are a concession of free will, which by no means are we obligated to do shit…
Let’s make sure we figure out the beautiful POWER OF NO…
And just like our dude Jerry says, it shouldn’t take 65 f*cking years to figure it out…
