My business partner at the soon to launch “No Filter Network,” Joe Manuele, is an Italian immigrant from Montreal that speaks English, French and Italian fluently… He is techy at heart and came to the United States in the midst of the dot com boom and tech revolution in the late 1990s.
Joe’s resume includes stops at Cisco, Avaya, Dimension Data, NTT Global and most recently he was the CEO of High Five Technologies until their recent merger with Dial Pad.
Joe has an engineering background but is also an X’s and O’s business guy and has made a career out of building relationships and of course connecting people and things.Â
The High Five/Dial Pad merger was a nice “exit” for Joe and as the co-founder of No Filter Network, we like to believe that so long as things are properly executed, he should be in a very favorable position moving forward…Â
To call somebody a “success” is obviously a very subjective opinion but ironically the only opinion that matters just so happens to be our own. That’s why when we toasted the High Five/Dial Pad merger and upcoming No Filter Network launches the other night, Joe said something that really hit home for me…
“It only took me 30 years to become an overnight success.”Â
The comment was met with laughter and may have even been said as a joke but gosh damn there is a shit ton of truth in that statement.
The funny thing is that the more I thought about it I realized our impression of what an overnight success actually is was completely wrong…Â
A baseball player can get called up to the big leagues, hit 3 home runs in his first game and then fade off to the oblivion of a 162 game season…
A technology startup company can catch fire, have their IPO go through the roof and then CRASH in epic proportions when a more efficient and effective product hits the market…Â
What may seem like overnight successes are simply flashes in the pan experiencing brief & non lasting moments of glory….Â
Yet, when we put in the work and accumulate experiences while maintaining a growth mindset, it may take 30 years but the term “overnight success” inevitably will become a reality… At least in our minds and that’s all that matters.Â
