Just re-read How To Win Friends And Influence Others by Dale Carnige and it’s easy to see how and why this gem is still so incredibly relevant in today’s world…
Personally, I don’t love the title because the idea of “winning” friends and “influencing” others sounds somewhat shallow and deceitful in today’s world… Yet shallowness & deceit are the furthest thing from what the book actually champions so there is absolutely no need to take my feelings about the 90-year-old title personally. 😅
That said, Carnegie lays out what we need to do to develop and build meaningful relationships in our lives and the incredible impact that ultimately has us improving the quality of our lives in all arenas…
The book is filled with one golden nugget after another but there was a line pretty deep into the book that actually had me stop my trail run mid stride to write it down…
“Success isn’t about attention and accolades… It’s about partnership and progress.”
Boom. 💥
We all too often try to quantify our successes with the attention we receive and the accolades we accumulate… The reality is that attention and accolades are uncontrollable byproducts that are completely independent of our work.
As Carnegie suggests, success is about developing partnerships and working together to PROGRESS forward…
So often in the Daily Hustle, we talk about the endless possibilities when we don’t care who gets the credit… Well, in 1936 Dale Carnegie said the exact same f*ing thing and that starts with focusing on the P & P, partnership & progress.
