A couple weeks ago we had Kowalski on The Daily Hustle Podcast when we analyzed the “Just 10 Books” Daily Hustle…
Not shockingly, Kowalski dropped two absolute GEMS when he said, “Readers are leaders and leaders are readers” and “A reader lives a million lives before he dies.”
Kowalski had heard both quotes before and they obviously stuck with him and no matter who originally said them, our dude could not have drilled it any better.
When I think about all of the people in my life that are hard charging, well respected leaders, just about every one of them just so happen to be literary slayers.
In order to be a great leader you need to be able to understand people and in order to understand people, we must learn about the experiences and overall mindset that have led them to both triumphant victories and agonizing defeats…
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies… The man who never reads lives one.”
This exact quote Kowalski was referring to is actually attributed to George R.R Martin and he’s pretty dead on… It’s not unrealistic to think that just an average reader will rip through 1000 books in their lifetime, thus taking them on 1000 different journeys whereas the non reader is a prisoner inside his self absorbed bubble and he ain’t getting out unless he eventually finds the key that just so happens to be hidden inside the books…
As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said:
“If we encounter a man of rare intellect, we should ask him what books he reads. I cannot remember the books I’ve read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”
There is no doubt we should be constantly seeking out what other people are reading, especially those who seem to be forward thinking revolutionaries that we respect. Ultimately, as the great Ralph Waldo Emerson suggests, it doesn’t matter if we are quoting passages from great works because even if we don’t remember everything we ate throughout the course of the day, it still served as our fuel that undoubtedly gives us the READERS ADVANTAGE. 📚
