Recently I listened to “Think Like A Rocket Scientist” written by Ozan Voral and the best way I can put it is that rocket scientists don’t necessarily think the way I thought they did…
Even though I have never really met one, I personally figured that all rocket scientists must be very matter of fact… X’s and O’s are the only thing that matter and everything is either black or white, there is no grey area and definitely no room for mistakes, ZERO.
Boy was I WRONG.
It’s been said that the history of science proves that most scientists are wrong about most things most of the time…
Aristotle’s ideas apparently were falsified by Galileo’s whose ideas were trumped by Newton’s whose ideas were pissed on by Einstein and his theory of relativity, which ultimately came up short at the subatomic level anyway…
WTF 😅
Of course these were brilliant men and most likely without the works of one we don’t get the works of others… Yet the beauty of science is that even years after a hypothesis is perceived to be absolute, new discoveries are made and theories are regularly disproved or greatly expanded upon…
In short, the world is constantly changing and with it, so is science… This is why scientists dedicate their entire lives to disprove their own theories.
In a time where we stick to our own ideas and cling to them as gold despite what the facts may tell us, it’s probably a pretty good time to start questioning everything… Our ability to open our minds and our hearts to new findings and opposing viewpoints is what ultimately leads to growth. The problem is that we hear what we want to hear and we see what we want to see… Several experiments have been done that prove people LOVE confirmation of their own beliefs no matter what the facts say…
The amazing thing is that people would much rather be wrong and receive bullshit confirmation of their false narratives than actually face the objective truths supported by hard facts.
One of the things that Varol points out is that the only thing more powerful than the facts is the mind and our current environment plays right into it…
It’s no accident that the algorithms of social media feed us the images and videos that support all the things we like and all the things that directly cater to our belief system…
In contrast, if our society were to actually think like rocket scientists we would constantly be fed material that contradicts everything we believe to hold as truths in this world.
Sure, it’s comforting to believe we have all the answers but let me politely put it this way… If we ever want to maximize our potential as individuals and as a human species, we need to wake the fuck up and force ourselves to constantly rethink and challenge EVERYTHING while consistently trying to prove ourselves wrong. 🤔
The amazing thing is that the execution of this strategy is actually pretty simple…
All we got to do is think like a rocket scientist. 👨🔬 🚀
