What’s the rush 🤷‍♂️

In Blog, Hustle Podcast by Eric Byrnes

When we were kids, we couldn’t wait to grow up…

We couldn’t wait to go to high school, we couldn’t wait to get our drivers license, we couldn’t wait to take our first drag of the organic hippie lettuce plant medicine, and we couldn’t wait to put down our first adult beverage…

Ultimately, we couldn’t wait to graduate, move out of the house and go to college…

My Mom drove with me down to UCLA then I dropped her off at LAX to catch a flight back to San Francisco. At that point I remember thinking that I’ve been waiting my entire life for this moment…

I was FINALLY ON MY OWN.

As soon as she kissed me goodbye and got out of the car, I began driving away with a sense of liberation and pride like I had never experienced in my life. Then it hit me, and trust me when I say it hit me HARD… I immediately experienced an overwhelming rush of emotions and began to uncontrollably cry to the point where I had to pull over because I could no longer see.

I had no idea what college life and beyond had in store, but I realized that my childhood as I knew it was over. I then realized that I had spent the last 18 years rushing to grow up…

Why?

With tears in my eyes as I clinched the steering wheel of my 1989 Ford Bronco, I asked myself that very question… Reflecting on it now, I feel like from that moment on, I made both conscious and subconscious decisions to NOT rush through life.

Look… Life is going to happen, and whether we like it or not, change will take place. Yet, if we want to get the most out of our experiences, the greatest thing we can do is slow life down to each moment and appreciate where we are right HERE, right NOW…

What’s the rush, right Mom? 🤷‍♂️
