Today is my middle child Sissy Small Fry’s 10th B-Day and even though she has barely scratched the surface of life, I think we can all learn a lot from her…
To say she is a contrarian would be a bit of an understatement… If we say left she is going right and if we recommend black, whatever it is surely is going to turn out white.
Many of you may think this could obviously be an issue, but interestingly enough, it’s been a revelation watching as she explores boundaries and we continue to give her the liberty to do so…
Yes, she dyes her hair pink and puts Punky Brewster’s fashion to shame, but the autonomy she has developed is so incredibly NEXT LEVEL that she literally can sit in her room by herself with no devices and entertain herself for hours.
When she is within her domain, her security and sense of self is unparalleled and when she is not, she relentlessly tests the waters of the world by diving in head first…
Most importantly, even as defiant and difficult as she can be at times, Sissy quite possibly is the most loving and caring person I have ever met in my life… Whether it’s her 1000 stuffy’s, our 4 dogs, her friends, her siblings or us, her parents, she continually and genuinely cares about other people’s feelings like I’ve never seen… The love she regularly exudes is the complete and total definition of REAL.
Much like her Grammy, she is a free spirit and definitely isn’t afraid to ask a question, ANY question, or give her opinion and speak her mind with absolutely NO FILTER…
In sum, she is a free thinking free speaking eternal loving non conformist willing to challenge the status quo of anything and everything the world has to offer us…
Something tells me we would all be much better off if we added a little bit more Sissy Small Fry in our lives…
