Slow the F*CK down 🛑

When I first got into triathlon training, I was fresh off the Major League Baseball field and was built like a 215 pound thoroughbred race horse who was ready to push the pace out the gates at the Kentucky Derby…

Then, I started working with legendary triathlon coach Frank Sole, and he made it his mission to try to figure out a way to slow me down…

Slow down? 🤷‍♂️

WTF Frank, I’m built for SPEED my dude…

Go fast or go the f*ck home!!!

That’s my motto…

Damn, I had A LOT to learn. 🤦‍♂️

The reality of the endurance world is that in order to eventually speed up, we must find a way to slow down…

When we slow down, we actually give our bodies and mind a chance to properly adapt to an efficient and effective form of sustainable movement while building a solid endurance base without physically overtaxing taxing the body.

What normally happens is that we as humans like to feel like we are working and we spend our time training in NO MAN’S LAND. We don’t go slow enough to gain any lasting endurance benefits and we rarely ever go fast enough to gain any speed…

The Golden Rule of ultra endurance sports is pretty simple:

If you feel like you are working, you are working too hard. 🤔

Amazingly, when I finally figured out how to slow my ass down was when I finally was able to see legitimate gains…

Ultra endurance endeavors aren’t much different than life…

They both involve LONG arduous journeys that experience many highs and many lows throughout the process… Yet the incredible thing with both is that in order to prevent the EPIC crash & burn and optimize our success in an ultra endurance race as well as the race of life…

We must figure out a way to SLOW THE F*CK DOWN. ✋
