Yesterday we discussed the 72-mile iconic run around Lake Tahoe in the “Mistake By The Lake” Daily Hustle…Â
The only actual mistake was the lack of road width that had us literally running for our lives…Â
Other than playing chicken with cars, trucks and buses driving 80 mph, the #LetThemPlay LTP Foundation Lake Tahoe Run Loop experience was one of the coolest of my ultra endurance life…Â
Late in the day at about mile 60, the traffic had finally died down and then we came across a brand new path that started at Sand Harbor Beach and took us nearly 10 miles to Incline Village… After 11 plus hours of running and the seemingly eternal game of real life frogger, that path might as well been the fucking yellow brick road to Narnia…Â
As the sun was setting behind the West Shore mountains and glistening off the lake, Kowalski and I hit what I would describe as the most euphoric part of the run…Â
“It’s been a helluva day dude but this right here is why we do this shit.”Â
As Kowalski and I both looked off into the majestic distance, he responded with one word…
“INCREDIBLE.”Â
Immediately after, we came around a bend and there was a family of 5 sitting silent on the stone brick wall at literally the most beautiful part of the sunset… Unfortunately, there was only one problem, they were facing the path instead of the lake and 4 of the 5 including the Mom & the Dad were all completely engaged with… THEIR PHONES. 🤳
FUCK ME 🤦‍♂️
I get it, I use my phone A LOT and I am not one to cast stones, as a matter of fact I posted an IG story time of the sunset myself, but for whatever reason this got to me…Â
“Hey guys… Sunsets the other direction! SUNSET!!!!!”Â
I admit that I am often as guilty as this entire family at not immersing myself in the actual moment… As the technological world has developed, I do believe I have gotten much better but I definitely have a long way to go in the constant battle to embrace the here and now for all of it’s worth… Â
The most important thing is that regardless of where the next generation ends up, we have a responsibility to lead by example by putting the gosh damn phones away and teaching our children about the moments that really matter. 🌅Â
SUNSET!!!!!!!!
