Eric Byrnes is a keynotes peaker, author, and former Major League Baseball outfielder that played 11 seasons before transitioning to a career in sports brodcasting and discovering a passion for ultra endurance sports.

Eric Byrnes is a former Major League Baseball outfielder that played 11 seasons for the Oakland Athletics, Colorado Rockies, Baltimore Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Seattle Mariners. He is currently an analyst for MLB Network, the host of The Daily Hustle Podcast, and author of The F”It List: LiTe Lessons From A Human Crash Test Dummy.

Byrnes is an avid ultra endurance adventure athlete and subject of the award winning documentary ‘Diamond To The Rough’, as well as the soon to be released ‘Let Them Play: A Triathlon Across America’ documentary, which followed his 3,370 mile journey swimming, biking and running from San Francisco to New York City. The transcontinental Triathlon was the first of its kind and was completed in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the growing youth inactivity epidemic.

In April of 2018, Byrnes set a world record by playing 245 holes of golf without a cart in a 12 hour period. Byrnes covered 65.5 miles on foot while breaking the old mark of 237.

In April of 2019, Byrnes doubled up on his feat by breaking the 47 year old Guinness Book of World Records for most golf holes played without a cart in a 24 hour period. Byrnes bested the old mark of 402 when he played 420 holes at the Half Moon Bay Golf Links Ocean Course in Half Moon Bay, California. He covered 106 miles on foot during the record breaking 24 hour journey.

Eric is a San Francisco Bay Area native who grew up in Woodside, CA and attended St. Francis High School, where he regularly competed against future Hall of Famer Tom Brady in both football and baseball.

Byrnes was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Major League Baseball draft out of high school, but elected to attend UCLA instead. While at UCLA, Byrnes was a 3-time All American and helped lead the Bruins to their first College World Series in 29 years. Byrnes was drafted by the Houston Astros after his junior season but again elected to stay in school to complete his education. Byrnes was drafted by the Oakland A’s after his senior campaign and left college as the all time hits leader in UCLA history. He was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 2013.

Eric was part of the 2002 “Moneyball” Oakland A’s team that won a record 20 consecutive games. In 2007, as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Byrnes became the 11th player in the history of Major League Baseball to hit 20 home runs and steal 50 bases. That same year, he also won the “Fielding Bible Award,” given to the best MLB defensive player at each position.

After retiring from baseball in 2010, Byrnes found solace in surfing, golfing and playing slow pitch softball for the Dutch Goose. On a dare, Byrnes completed his first sprint triathlon in late 2010 and 11 months later completed his first Ironman.

Since then, Byrnes has completed countless Ironmans and ultra marathons including the grueling Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, where he earned the highly coveted silver belt buckle, awarded to finishers who complete the historic 100 mile trek in under 24 hours.

Eric, his wife Tarah, and 3 children, Chloe, Cali, and Colton, founded the Let Them Play Foundation in the Summer of 2018 to make sure every kid gets their rightful opportunity to play...

The Let Them Play Foundation’s rallying cry is: “It’s not a privilege. It’s their right.”
