Somebody is ALWAYS watching 👀

In Blog, Hustle Podcast by Eric Byrnes

Most of us are really good at turning it on when we have to…

Whether it’s a presentation, an interview or a social setting that requires us to be engaged, we have an incredible ability to lock in and immerse ourselves in the moment.

It’s very easy to be the good guy and treat people well when the lights are on and everybody is watching…

Oftentimes, we will see the A list actor or superstar athlete do an interview and the majority of the time we walk away from the interview thinking how great of a person that individual seems to be… Of course, the reality is that the person happens to be one of the bigger D-BAGS walking the face of the earth.

We watch a boss or leader of an organization give a presentation centered around morals, ethics and the value of working together as a team to achieve greatness… Yet the reality is that the dude happens to be a narcissistic prick that doesn’t give two f*cks about anything other than the bottom line numbers…

Even on a much smaller scale, we all know people who have the ability to be the life of the party and come across as the second coming of Mother Teresa… Then, when the party happens to be over, so is their gregarious fun loving world saving personality…

In the television world, which I happen to be very familiar with, there are many people who have an on camera and off camera persona and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I would never expect somebody to have to maintain an everlasting entertain at all times personality… What we should expect though is the same core values that are championed on air are the same sort of core values that person consistently lives their life by off of the air…

The greatest compliment just about anybody can ever receive in the entertainment game is that they “are the same person off the air as they are on.”

Now that we know what we are striving for, let’s discuss the two main personality traits we can work on that will allow us to be the same person no matter what street in life we happen to be walking down…

  1. Consistency
  2. Authenticity

So long as we remain consistent and authentic in our words and actions, we will be able to discover our absolute best selves not only when the entire world is watching, but most importantly, when we are all alone in the dark alley with not a single set of eyeballs on us but our own…

That said, let’s make sure we live our lives like somebody is ALWAYS watching, because WE ARE…
