No matter what we do or who we are in life, we will all go through inevitable events that will have a direct effect on our lives… Although most of us will perceive each of these events in a positive or negative light, the truth is that ultimately we have no clue how these happenings will directly impact our future.
That said, the best way we can respond to any and all scenarios is with a humble gratitude for our experiences. When we are able to maintain a proper perspective through the emotional roller coaster of life, we may not have a clear yellow brick road to Narnia paved for us, but we do have the ability to positively influence the unknown and unforeseen future events that await.
There is a famous Taoist Story titled “We’ll See” that I recently read on the “Eff It Helps” website which beautifully depicts the value of not getting too high on the highs or low on the lows:
“There was an old farmer who had worked his farm for many years. One day his horse ran away. Hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. ‘That’s bad luck,’ they said sympathetically. ‘We’ll see,’ the farmer replied. The next day, the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. ‘How wonderful,’ the neighbors pronounced. ’We’ll see,’ replied the farmer. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the horses, but he was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbors arrived to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. ‘We’ll see,’ uttered the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men for the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out… ‘We’ll see,’ said the farmer.”
Yes we will my dude. 👊
